I’ve learned this tip from experience. I’ve compared myself to other more successful (“better”) musicians and gone into a deep hole. The type of hole where I’m discouraged all day and don’t get very much done at all. So instead of wishing you had some other musician’s success or opportunities, put your blinders on and remember that you are you. Your story of success will look different than every other artist’s.
MTV helped break punk in the ’80s, ’90s, and continued through the ’00s with so many alt-rock bands that have become classic simply by virtue of their televised videos. Regardless of what the content of MTV has become of late, we still have a lot to be thankful for in the past.
“Sad!”: The key escaped me for a while here, since the main chord, C minor, appears only as the upper part of the first chord, A♭Maj7, and then as an inversion, Cm/G. And the synth-trumpet riff doesn’t use the tonic, either. But then, lucky for us thumb-suckers always crying for our tonal blankies, the main vocal motif that starts all the stanzas is a classic “me-re-do” tonic returner. The choruses here are doubled up with no variation, the instrumental bridge is basically just the intro again, and for goodness sake, there’s only one verse! I mean, when a song is this simple, you gotta guess that the ultra-restraint was premeditated.

No engineer’s library would be complete without some technical information, and Ballou’s Handbook, now in its fifth edition, is a serious contender for being your go-to in this field. A university-standard textbook, it’s not for the layperson.
From a t-shirt and jeans with a stencil type design to full stage costumes, masks, and wigs with branded graphics, here’s why your band’s visuals matter.
With a robust membership of over 725,000 composers, ASCAP is the only American PRO owned and operated by its members. It distributed $1.109 billion in royalties in 2018.
This is a very classic song structure that can be found in everything from James Taylor to Ariana Grande. Here are some recent songs that use this structure (or something similar):
Have you noticed by now that “fun” means “not music?” Rather, not music business. I don’t know about you, but I have so much more fun when I’m not thinking about my next show, booking the next leg of the tour, or planning out my next release strategy. I love being a full-time musician, but it is important to step back from it sometimes. I have the most fun when I’m living in a different world, a world written by somebody else. Whatever floats your boat and gets your mind off yourself, stick your nose (or eyes) into a book.
Her project is cleverly structured using Indiegogo’s flexible funding feature. As long as she reaches any of four monetary milestones, she’ll be able to complete her project. Well done!

In some of the earlier works on this list, we’ve heard the theremin produce quartertones, reverberated sci-fi soundscapes, dissonance, and virtuosity. But here, it’s just plain pretty. In fact, it’s simply beautiful! The theremin holds center stage here showing yet another timbral side to the instrument: its angelic, siren, somnambulant quality and characteristics.
“Bach, in his Ciaccona for solo violin, transforms the dance into an extended soliloquy of tragic character. It sounds entirely unsuitable for a wild wedding, yet the triple rhythm of the original dance is implicit throughout, as is the pattern of a repeating chord progression.”
In order to drive both the concept and content home to audiences in meaningful ways, Björk tied collaborations, events and experiences together into the Biophilia project. Instruments that respond to smart technology and Earth processes like gravity and electricity were invented and manipulated and used throughout the recording of the album. She even manipulates her lyrics to fit with the general scientific discussions about some topics, like in “Dark Matter”, her lyrics have been scrambled like gibberish since little is known beyond speculation of this phenomena.
